Blackwood, New Jersey – June 30, 2008 -- Metrologic Instruments announced today the availability of a flexible licensing solution for Genesis. Launched in December 2007, Genesis is the world’s first presentation area imager engineered to scan all standard printed and electronic 1D, PDF and 2D matrix codes. Genesis makes history again, as the first scanner in the industry to offer a flexible licensing solution. This flexible licensing solution will be compatible with Metrologic’s complete line of imaging products, beginning with Genesis. A base version of Genesis that reads 1D linear bar codes only is now available. Scanner functionality can be enhanced by purchasing additional decoding licenses:
All Genesis scanners will continue to deliver a rich set of features, including an intelligent multi-interface design, image capture capabilities and superior motion tolerance. They will also incorporate Metrologic’s patent-pending TotalFreedom™ open-system architecture, which expands scanner functionality by allowing formatting, parsing and decoding plug-ins to be loaded directly to the scanner instead of the host system. “Metrologic’s new licensing solution provides end users with the flexibility to create a customized solution that meets the current scanning requirements of their application, while retaining the ability to purchase additional functionality as the need arises,” said Mark Schmidt, Metrologic’s vice president of marketing and product management. “In addition to delivering best-in-class scanners, Metrologic is committed to delivering advanced software and service solutions such as the recently launched TotalFreedom open-system architecture and EasyID™ software plug-in. We are pleased to introduce our new flexible licensing solution as the third offering in this category,” added Schmidt. Effective immediately, Genesis can be purchased with any combination of decoding licenses. Additional licenses can be purchased and installed in the field, by simply scanning an activation bar code. The base version of the scanner, which performs omnidirectional reading of 1D bar codes only, is price-competitive with traditional omnidirectional laser scanners.
